As we are all stuck inside during Coronavirus elderly care can be a little hard during quarantine. As some of our options for entertainment are taken away you may find yourself wondering how you can help and what to do during quarantine with your seniors. Keeping your elderly loved ones entertained during coronavirus doesnt have to be hard.
The long walks in the day, shopping and socializing are off the table for now but here are some ways you and entertain your elderly loved ones during these strange times and what to do during lockdown.
Get your community involved and invite them over to entertain your loved ones. We have invited the local kids to build snowmen for your residents. They can watch them have fun and play all from the warm safety of indoors. This can work any time of year and you just change up the activity but this gives a way for your seniors to be a part of the fun.
This is just like a normal visit but with the added safety of the glass. You can pop by to see your elderly loved one, talk life, even visit with the kids with minimal risk to all involved. We understand in these testing times that you might not be able to share that hug, the grandparent kiss and chat in person. But this still gives you that close catch up with minimal risk.
FaceTime / Video Calls
Everyone has a smartphone these days and this can be the key way to unlocking the boredom you may feel in lock down. This remote way of visiting your loved one is 100% safe. You call in using your phone with your phone camera.
This gives you to still chat all the usual life, love and family news without the risk of travel or publish social distancing.
At out homes we always have home owned dogs. These can be a great way to offer companionship. Everyone loves to good cuddle, stroke or play with our resident dogs and can offer that additional bit of mental stimulation you need on a hard day and need to be entertained during coronavirus.
Little things like petting a therapy dog can increase levels of the stress-reducing hormone oxytocin and decrease the production of the stress hormone cortisol. Studies have shown that stress reduces productivity. Studies have also shown that a therapy dog’s loving boost can help increase productivity as the stress diminishes.
